DIY Inspirational Quote Jar
I'm still on my inspirational kick! When I was a kid I used to keep all of my fortunes from the fortune cookies I ate. I'd put them in this cute little box and pick out different ones all the time. It was fun to read them and see if they applied to the question I asked, or the way I was feeling. This DIY is a more modern version of that idea.
You may also want a book of quotes, New Year's resolutions, or a list of goals you're wanting to accomplish.
1. Tie the ribbon in a bow around the mason jar.
2. Cut the excess ribbon at an angle.
3. Take the colored paper strips, and make sure they're about the width of your thumb.
4. Write inspirational quotes, or goals on each strip of paper. Then fold them up.
Boom! You're done! Whenever you're feeling down you can always reach into your jar for a little pick-me-up. My quotes in the picture above say:
"Never give up until you've given out your very best. It's better to fail trying than wondering what could have happened if you tried."
"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
"All of our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them."
Sneak Peek Into My Notebook
Just a few shots of what's in my notebook. I use this thing all the time as a home for new ideas and daily inspiration. I feel naked without it! The quote that I placed in my notebook is so inspirational. As soon as I read it I knew I had to put it in my book. It's by Marianne Williamson and it really resonates with me. In case you can't read my handwriting the quote says:
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of the universe. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we're liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Drake
Miguel was his opener and man does he have great energy! He was so fun! He kept cracking jokes and dancing all over the stage. He even dropped down into the splits at one point! It was really cool, and I liked his set so much because he didn't sing his songs exactly the way I've heard them. He made them a little different and mixed a couple together. It was a pretty cool combination.
Drake was a pretty good show, but I don't really think he's a performer. He's a great artist, he sounds exactly the same live as he does on his album but I wasn't all that impressed by his energy or his set. I really felt the passion from J.Cole when he performed and I just didn't feel like that same passion was coming from Drake.
Los Angeles - Part II
Jon took me to the airport this morning... This trip was so fast! It literally flew by! While I'm sad to be leaving I am grateful for the time I got to have here, and for the adventures I got to experience. I met so many people and was able to see so many different parts of L.A.! I definitely think I made my trip a productive one.
I'm currently in the Phoenix airport for my two hour layover, so I thought I'd write a post to kill some time. I've got about thirty minutes left, so I'm going to go find a bite to eat before I go catch my plane. The next time I post I'll be in Texas!
Last Days
I'm feeling a lot better this morning. Thank goodness! It's the absolute worst when you get sick while on "vacation," so I'm beyond grateful that I'm feeling up to speed. These are just some shots of the area around my hotel. I literally almost peed my pants laughing when I saw that sign by the pool. Then I started to wonder how the hell they were going to know if someone had diarrhea or not? I have no idea, but you have to admit that the sign is pretty funny. I'm sad that my trip will be coming to an end soon. These past few days have been absolutely amazing, and I really don't want to go back to the real world. But alas I must, after all whenever my plane leaves I know that my butt better be on it because I cannot afford another plane ticket! Haha.
How To Make It In L.A. - Part II
The conference kicked off with L'wren Scott and man did she get the ball rolling. She has an amazing story, and she doesn't think that's she made it in fashion yet! She gave all kinds of tips and advice, her speech was crazy inspirational. I think I'm going to write a piece on it for DISfunkshion. I think I love this conference so much because it brings so many different people together. It's mind blowing and it makes me glad to know that I'm not the only one trying to make their dreams come true. I know that with enough determination we are all capable of anything we put our minds to.
I was most excited to listen to lunch keynote speaker Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This. Not only is she an insanely talented individual, she is also an amazing speaker and an all around good person. When she opens her mouth you can tell that every word that leaves her mouth is said with purpose and dedication. She really inspired me to take my own brand into my hands, and get out there and start doing something instead of just saying you're going to do it later. After her speech I went up to her and asked if I could hug her, she was really and said "awe, sure," and then I thanked her for being so genuine. She let me know that she really does love speaking to people, she just doesn't have time to do it all the time. She's a breath of fresh air in an industry that can become so jaded, and I am really glad that I go the chance to meet her.
The conference was really amazing, I'm sad that I don't live in Los Angeles! I made so many connections, and people that I can ask for advice. I really can't wait to get back home and start to implement the strategies I've learned. The conference was fun, but I'm really tired. I'm about to crash out! I think the change from the crappy Texas weather to this beautiful California weather is messing with me. I'm going to take some medicine and take a nap. Hopefully I'll feel better in the morning. How To Make It In Fashion L.A. - Part I
I can't believe I'm here at the How To Make It In L.A. Conference! I had to take the metro to get here and man I got lost! I didn't realize that it only went one way, I thought it would loop back around, so after standing on the metro for a good ten minutes I asked the girl next to me if it would go to Hollywood/Vine and she told me no. So I hopped out and got on the next one (on the other side) and I arrived at my destination three minutes later. It's really easy once you get the hang of it, and it made me so glad that I didn't rent a car while I was here. I would have been so late with all of the traffic! They're running a little bit behind so it hasn't started yet, but I'm going to go explore this breathtaking hotel. It's absolutely exquisite and it's also a LEED Silver building. Props. *Sigh* I think I've died and gone to heaven. I can't wait to post on how the rest of the day goes! Later guys!
Umami Burger
Hilty and Zach decided that we should go to Umami Burger to catch up. I had no clue what that was so I was crazy excited. Hilty picked me up and when we got there the place had a really cool vibe. It was super chill, everyone was talking and laughing in this trendy little restaurant. We ended up eating outside, and the air was getting to be a little bit chilly but they had heat lamps so the atmosphere was absolutely perfect.
Being a vegetarian/pescatarian I was a wee bit worried at eating here. The name "Umami Burger" doesn't really imply being vegetarian friendly now does it? But after scanning the menu I saw they served an Ahi Tuna Burger, and as soon as I read the description I knew I had to have it. Poor Hilty ended up getting this delicious salad, but I shared my burger with her. It was literally one of the most delicious things I have ever had. I told our waitress to thank the Chef because it was so amazing. She looked at me like I was out of my mind, but at least she was polite about it. Zach had some manly burger, but it was just fun to catch up and reminisce about everything we went through while we were interning at Cannes. It was a summer to remember for sure, and I'm so glad that we all got to meet each other. I'm back home now, I think I'm going to go out in Hollywood with another friend. She just phoned to say she's going to come pick me up, so I'm off to get ready. I've got the conference in the morning. Hopefully I'll post again soon! Have a good night everybody!
Los Angeles - Part I
I'm in Los Angeles! The weather is so perfect! A nice 75 degrees. Jon told me that it's apparently uncharacteristically warm for this time of year, but I'm not complaining. Before I got on the plane the weather was close to 50 degrees if not colder. The airline delayed my bag, so it arrived after I did, but it was okay because we got to go on an adventure! We went all over (I've never walked so much in my life) I saw Venice Beach, Los Feliz, and Hollywood. I'm sad I didn't get to take pictures while I was in Venice. My stupid phone was dying, but it was crazy cool to see all the culture and feel the sea breeze on my skin. Not to mention the food is flat out amazing. I have this huge vegetarian slice of pizza with a sesame seed crust. It was one of the best things I've ever tasted. Everything was so fresh, and I could tell the dough was homemade. Mmmm....
Just being out here makes me feel so excited about life. I feel reenergized, I feel inspired, I feel ready. Ready to open a new chapter in my life. I'm not sure what it holds, but I do know that it will involve me pursuing my dreams whole-heartedly. In this life, if I am unable to have anything else, the one thing that I want to do is be happy. To feel fulfilled. I know in my heart that if I can accomplish that, then I can do anything.
L.A. Bound
I'm so excited! In less than two hours I'll be in sunny California. My good friend Jon is going to pick me up from the airport, and I'm going to catch up with a couple of my fellow Cannes Film Festival interns. Not to mention, I'll also be attending the How To Make It In L.A. Conference. I've got a lot to do in a little bit of time, but I'm up for the challenge! Next time I'll post I'll be in L.A. Woohoo!
